Year 9 students from Pendle’s high schools took part in the Pendle Engineering Festival organised by Pendle Borough Council.

More than 600 students from Marsden Heights Community College, Fisher More High School, Park High School and Colne Primet Academy attended the event held at Nelson and Colne College.

They got involved in numerous engineering-based activities, including interactive challenges, working as a team on problem solving initiatives and building small structures using spaghetti, sticky tape and marshmallows.

They also had the opportunity to engage with current Engineering Apprentices at Nelson and Colne College, staff from Pendle Borough Council’s engineering services and representatives from local businesses, including ELE Advanced Technologies Ltd and PDS Engineering Ltd.

Councillor Asjad Mahmood, Leader of Pendle Borough Council and the Council’s Portfolio Holder for Growth and Regeneration, said: “The event was a huge success and an eye opener for students looking at a career in engineering.

“They took part in activities, watched demonstrations and had the opportunity to talk to apprentices and people working in the field of engineering.

“The students received a wonderful insight into the industry and hopefully the festival will have helped some of them make a decision about their future career path.”
