Cygnet Texkimp wins four awards for work to support innovation and decarbonisation in global aerospace and automotive
Fibre processing technology specialist Cygnet Texkimp has won four awards at the finals of the UK’s Northern Automotive Alliance (NAA) Awards and the Make UK Manufacturing Awards for the North West.
The Cheshire-based manufacturer was recognised at both ceremonies for its work to develop innovative fibre handling and processing solutions that solve engineering challenges and support decarbonisation in the global automotive and aerospace industries.
At the NAA Awards held in Crewe on 19th September, the company won top spot in the International Trade category and was awarded Highly Commended in the Innovation category before being named Company of the Year. The judges congratulated Cygnet Texkimp for its work to develop and commercialise a range of fibre processing solutions that enable decarbonisation in automotive. These include the company’s ground-breaking, high-tension carbon fibre overwrapping solution for the manufacture of high-performance electric motors and hydrogen fuel cell powertrains for the international EV market, and its green-tech materials recycling solution, DEECOM, which is designed to reduce waste and enable circularity in composite materials and parts.
Announcing Cygnet Texkimp as the Company of the Year, the NAA said: “Judges were particularly impressed by this Cheshire-based company’s revolutionary approach to carbon fibre processing, developed at its newly established Innovation Centre and delivering real-world benefits to both the decarbonisation and sustainability agendas of automotive OEMs.”
At the Make UK North West Manufacturing Awards in Burnley on 24th October, Cygnet Texkimp was awarded the Innovation award for its UK-based, world-class programme of collaborative innovation which has seen the company develop a series of technologies that accelerate learning in composites and advanced materials science, enable future capability, and improve sustainability, efficiency and performance in global composites, aerospace and automotive.
Cygnet Texkimp CEO Luke Vardy said: “We are absolutely delighted to have our work recognised by the NAA and Make UK as well as the manufacturing communities in the North of England. To win four awards at these prestigious events is testament to the incredible hard work and vision of our talented teams of world-class engineers, product innovators and market specialists who collaborate so successfully with industry to bring to market some of the most innovative new technologies ever developed.
“Decarbonisation is a major priority for automotive and aerospace manufacturers the world over. Together, we’re developing the capability to process technical fibres needed to deliver a new generation of energy efficient and sustainable motor vehicles and aircraft in ways that support lightweighting and electrification, reduce waste and revolutionise end-of-life management of composite materials and parts.”
Cygnet Texkimp will go on to compete in the Make UK national finals against other companies around the UK in January 2025.
