Commemorating 100 years of Avro Woodford

On Tuesday 17th September, Hyde Group had the privilege of attending a remarkable event at the Avro Heritage Museum in Woodford, Greater Manchester, commemorating the centenary of the Woodford Aerodrome. This iconic site, home to A.V. Roe and Company (Avro), has been a cornerstone of British aviation history, and we were honoured to be a part of this milestone celebration.

Our connection to Woodford dates back decades, beginning in the 1970s when we manufactured assembly jigs for the BAe 146 airliner, followed by our work on the RJ146 regional jet in the 1990s, and the Nimrod reconnaissance aircraft in the 2000s. Being involved in this event was a special moment for us, reflecting our proud history and longstanding relationship with the site.

The event featured a commemorative plaque unveiled by the Mayor of Stockport, Councillor Suzanne Wyatt, in recognition of the many men and women who contributed to the aerodrome’s success from 1925 to 2011.

Attendees were also treated to spectacular flypasts, including a Tiger Moth, Anson, BAE 146, and a rare Bristol Blenheim, one of the last of its kind still flying today.

A special thanks to the team at the Avro Heritage Museum for hosting such an inspiring event. We encourage everyone to visit and support this museum, which continues to preserve the remarkable legacy of A.V. Roe and the pioneering spirit of British aviation.
