Burnley College Students To Stage Stunning Promenade Performance of Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’
“The course of true love never did run smooth…” says Shakespeare.
But Burnley College’s unrivalled Performing Arts Students are hoping for a flawless promenade performance of one of Shakespeare’s most popular plays, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”
The play has been transported in location to a 1920s garden party complete with fashionable flappers, striped blazers and boater hats galore!
A tale of love and conflict, as well as fairies and enchanted forests, this performance allows our outstanding students the opportunity to show off their talent and the skills learned on the wide range of courses they’re studying.
The promenade performance is set in a real-life location, rather than on stage. The audience will follow the actors around the location, providing an immersive experience and that feeling of being present in the scene!
The performance will be held on
• Tuesday, 4 July 2023
• At 6:30pm
• In Thompson Park, Burnley, starting at the Pavilion and heading around the bridges, Italian Gardens, lawns and wooded areas.
Sammy Allen, Curriculum Manager for Dance and Performing Arts at Burnley College, said:
“Our students are so enthusiastic about this show and have been putting 110% into their rehearsals! It really will be a night to remember!
“A promenade performance represents a significant challenge to both stage and rehearse, however we know our students will shine!
“These Students enjoy acting as an extra-curricular activity, alongside their studies, and have come together from a range of courses and levels throughout College to put on this stunning performance.”
Tickets for the promenade performance of Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ are available from Eventbrite (https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/668099994067) and are £5 for adults, and £3 concession (students, those aged under 16 and OAPs).
Please note this is an open-air performance and dress according to weather conditions. Seating will not be available on this promenade performance which lasts approximately 90 minutes.
