Bringing Sustainability Action to the Northwest

As a Northwest-based energy and sustainability consultancy, we are spearheading a collaborative effort to bring together a community of businesses to help achieve net zero and enhance sustainable business practices.

This initiative has led to a series of events, the latest of which is organised in partnership with Blackpool & The Fylde College, the North & Western Lancashire Chamber of Commerce, and the Northwest Aerospace Alliance.

Blackpool Transport and its Managing Director, Jane Cole, will also be key participants. Jane is a prominent advocate for sustainability and has overseen the electrification of the Blackpool Transport bus fleet adding 115 new electric buses, and heavily involved in the tram extension as part of the Talbot Gateway development.

The event will take place at the Lancashire Energy HQ, an educational facility of Blackpool & The Fylde College, located at the Blackpool Airport Enterprise Zone. This venue is symbolic of the synergy between the college, which educates future engineers and energy professionals, and Sustainable Energy First, which supports renewable energy projects across the UK.

Designed for decision-makers and sustainability project leaders in large multi-site organizations, the event offers practical, actionable insights and best practices that can be immediately implemented across various sectors.

This is not the first event hosted by Sustainable Energy First. They previously held a round table in St Annes and a subsequent event in Manchester, both aimed at addressing the challenges businesses face in meeting net zero and sustainability goals.

The North & Western Lancashire Chamber of Commerce’s Be Inspired Business Awards (BIBAs) recognise the importance of sustainability with their Low Carbon Business of the Year category, sponsored by Sustainable Energy First for two consecutive years. These awards highlight the ongoing commitment of these businesses to the Northwest and sustainability.

The upcoming ‘Sustainably Speaking’ event, part of a series of videos, articles, events, and podcasts, aims to demystify complex sustainability terminology. Scheduled for Friday 4th October at Lancashire Energy HQ, the event will cover topics such as Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, green-washing, and best practices in energy management.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to tour the Lancashire Energy HQ, including its state-of-the-art energy and training centre and an on-site nuclear power plant simulator.

Speakers at the event include Michael Abbott, CEO of Sustainable Energy First, Esther Griffin, Account Director at Content Coms, and a panel of experts such as Jane Cole from Blackpool Transport, Sophie Addison from Addison Group, and representatives from Blackpool & The Fylde College.

A Chamber spokesperson stated, “This event is essential for Lancashire businesses, whether they are well-versed in sustainable practices or just beginning their journey. With increasing inquiries about energy best practices, this event aims to provide much-needed guidance.”

Michael Abbott, CEO of Sustainable Energy First, added, “For over 26 years, Sustainable Energy First has helped businesses and public sector organisations manage energy costs, reduce emissions, and progress towards net zero. This event is an opportunity to share our expertise with companies at any stage of their sustainability journey.”

The event will begin at 10 am, with delegate tours at 9:30 am and 1 pm. Lunch and networking opportunities will also be provided.
